Dan Lewis-Toakley: How green is your cloud? Tools for reducing your cloud carbon footprint.
Dan Lewis-Toakley is the Green Cloud Lead for ThoughtWorks North America and advises clients on strategies to help reduce the environmental footprint of their technology and oversees the open source project Cloud Carbon Footprint. He also works with climate justice movements to deliver software solutions to scale their growth and impact.
Dan will talk to us about measuring and reducing the energy and carbon emissions of public cloud use, introducing a new open source tool ThoughtWorks has launched called Cloud Carbon Footprint as well as exploring existing tools in the space.

Nick Lewis & Dryden Williams: Reducing the environmental impact of websites (lightning talks)
Nick is a Creative Technologist at Fiasco Design (UK) and the creator of the-sustainable.dev. He delivered a lightning talk covering what exactly makes a sustainable website and why considering how green your website is matters.
Dryden is a sustainable web consultant and creator of Ecoping, a variety of tools to help give companies all the insights they need to reduce their carbon emissions of their websites. In his lightning talk he took us through ways you can use EcoPing to make a difference and why this is not only good for the planet but for business too.

Gerry McGovern: Considering the earth experience in digital design
Gerry is the author of World Wide Waste and developer of the Top Tasks framework, an information design framework which has been used by Microsoft, Cisco, NetApp, Toyota, IBM, the European Union, US, UK, Dutch, Canadian, Norwegian, and Irish government. Also a highly regarded speaker, Gerry has spoken about designing simpler digital experiences in more than 40 countries.
In this talk Gerry used his 25 years of experience in the digital industry to shine a light on how we can all consider the impact on the planet arising from our use of digital.

Asim Hussain: Sustainable software engineering: building carbon-efficient applications
Asim Hussain is a developer, trainer, author and speaker with over 19 years experience working for organisations such as the European Space Agency, Google and now Microsoft, where he is the Green Cloud advocacy lead.
Sustainable Software Engineering (SSE) is an emerging discipline at the intersection of climate science, software, hardware, electricity markets and data centre design. By grasping the eight first principles of Sustainable Software Engineering, a Sustainable Software Engineer can build carbon efficient applications and have a meaningful impact on the climate crisis.

Liam Snelling: How to talk to clients about their digital carbon footprint
Liam is the co-founder and MD at Digital Detox, a humanity-led design and development agency focused on building core technology to deliver digital empowerment, specialising in web and apps.
The transmission of data via the internet can be very polluting, contributing to 4% of our global greenhouse gas emissions. So every time we use the internet or social media, a small amount of carbon is being emitted. Using his experience of working with Vodafone’s Customer Products and Services team to explore their digital carbon footprint, Liam talked us through a 5 step process to create awareness, facilitate conversations and ultimately help your clients make inroads into understanding and reducing their digital carbon footprints.

Hannah is a freelance WordPress Developer from Bristol with a BSc in Computer Science. She wears many other hats including co-founder and organiser of Green Tech South West.
